O.U. Polar Plunge

Ohio University Polar Plunge aims to raise $30,000 for Special Olympics.

The fourth annual Ohio University Polar Plunge charity event took place on, Saturday February 12, at the Stroud’s Run State Park beach in Athens.

The event was a huge successs and is part of a statewide fundraiser for Special Olympics Ohio (SOOH), a nonprofit organization that provides athletic training and competition to more than 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The Ohio University Polar Plunge, which had a patriotic theme this year, was co-sponsored by Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity and the Ohio University Police Department.  The contest was held at 1 p.m., followed by the plunge at 1:30 p.m. Participants had to donate at least $50 to plunge.
A post-plunge party  took place from 2-4:30 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings in Athens.

In 2010, nine plunges around the state raised about $300,000 for SOOH. The goal this year is $30,000.  We hope to be able to announce soon this years total.
