Athens County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an early morning break-in at a small town bank.
Sheriff Pat Kelly says tellers entering the Community Bank in Amesville at about
8 a. m. were confronted by a man hiding inside a closet. He says they slammed the door in his face and fled the bank – and he followed.
Kelly says firefighters preparing for a festival near by blocked off the area and one firefighter chased the man into woods east of the bank off State Route 550.
Kelly says the sheriff’s K-9 is being brought in to assist in the search.
No description of the man is yet available. The sheriff says they’re going to review surveillance video.
Kelly says the man broke through a window in an empty apartment above the bank and then broke through the ceiling to enter the bank.
