The outdoor emergency warning sirens in Nelsonville and The Plains will be tested at noon today, Wednesday, August First with a one minute sounding.
The sirens are tested at noon on the first Wednesday of every month. However, the monthly test will be cancelled if severe weather is threatening.
Conditions that can trigger activation include Tornado or Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, an enemy or terrorist attack – or other public safety emergency – such as a hazardous materials incident and civil disturbance.
When the sirens are sounded for an actual emergency, they’ll be activated for five minutes.
Don’t call Nine-One-One when you hear them – that could cause an overload for dispatchers communcating with emergency personnel. Instead, go to a safe location and tune your radio to Power 105 – or to W-A-T-H at 970 A-M or 97-point-one F-M.
