As expected, a woman from The Plains has been sentenced to 20-years to life in prison in the death of her four-year-old stepdaughter.
Twenty-six-year-old Ashley Young was sentenced Wednesday morning in Athens County Common Pleas court in the beating death of four-year-old Kaylen Young.
Young had entered an Alford Plea in Common Pleas Court last week to charges of Aggravated Murder, Murder, Endangering Children, Attempted Aggravated Possession of Drug and Tampering with Evidence.
In an Alford Plea, the Defendant does not admit the act, but admits that the State has sufficient evidence to convince a reasonable juror of their guilt.
The maximum sentence that Young could have received is Life in Prison with No Parole, but Prosecutor Keller Blackburn recommended the lesser sentence as part of the plea deal.
Blackburn says he plans to oppose her release in 20 years.
