Fatal US 33 Crash

A teenager from McArthur has been killed in a two vehicle crash near Athens.

The crash happened short after 7:30 Tuesday morning on US 33 at the State Route 682 cut-off to Chauncey. Lieutenant George Harlow says 17-year-old Kendall Dawn Sweeney was trying to make an illegal left turn left onto US 33  when a west-bound pick-up truck struck her small car in the driver’s side. He says Sweeney was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Athens patrol post commander says witnesses told troopers that the teen did not stop at the stop sign.

A passenger in Sweeney’s car, 18-year-old Ashley Fausnauge of  Hamden, and the driver of the pick-up truck, 56-year-old John Miller of Athens, were taken to O’Bleness Hospital by Athens County E-M-S.

O’Bleness spokesman Linda Weiss says Fausnauge and  Miller were treated and released.
