The Circleville Tigers trailed by as many as nine in the first half, but came clawing back to defeat Athens, 51-45 in the Division II District Semifinals. The Bulldogs came out scorching hot and forced three turnovers and led 9-0. However, the Tigers would chip away at the lead behind Nathan Moats, who finished with 13. Athens would jump back out to yet another lead in the second quarter as the Dogs led 20-12, but Circleville went on an 11-2 run to finish the half including a trey by Carson Haddox that gave the Tigers their first lead of the night. In the third period, Circleville came out on fire. John Hamman hit a pair of treys while Denzel Amey dominated in the post, tallying 19 points, most of those in the second half. However, down by 12, Nick Stanley and his Bulldogs refused to give up. Stanley forced a pair of turnovers and converted on the other end. Athens cut the lead to as close as four, but couldn’t get any closer as the Dogs struggled from deep. The Bulldogs finish the season 12-10. Circleville will advance to do battle with top seed Chillicothe next Friday evening at the Convocation Center.
