Morning Sports – 10/12/12

The Cincinnati Reds were eliminated from the NLDS yesterday with a 6-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants. The Giants took a big lead in the fifth, scoring six times behind a Brandon Crawford RBI triple and a grand slam from Buster Posey. Cincinnati responded with two runs in the bottom half off of a Brandon Phillips two RBI double. The Reds would cut into the lead a little more in the sixth on a Ryan Ludwick solo homer. In the bottom of the ninth, Cincinnati cut into the lead more on a Ludwick RBI single, but with two on and two out, Scott Rolen failed to deliver. Cincinnati finishes the season with a record of 99-68. The Giants advance to the NLCS and will take on the winner of St. Louis and Washington.

In other MLB playoff action, Washington tied the series with St. Louis at two with a walk off 2-1 win. The Baltimore Orioles outlasted the New York Yankees, 2-1 in 13 innings to tie the series at two and Detroit claimed the ALCS over Oakland with a 6-0 win.

The Athens County game of the week returns to Power 105 tonight as Alexander travels to county rival Nelsonville-York. The Spartans are coming off of a very tough loss to Athens last week and need a win to keep playoff hopes alive. However, the Buckeyes are looking to keep their five game winning streak alive behind a defense that has given up just 14 points over the last three weeks. The Buckeyes and Spartans clash from Boston Field tonight on Power 105 with pregame at 7:15 and kickoff at 7:30.

The Athens Bulldogs return to Basil Rutter for the final time in the regular season tonight as they host the Vinton County Vikings. The Dogs have been dominant over the last three weeks and are rolling behind sophomore quarterback Joey Burrow, who has 31 touchdown passes this season. The young Vikings are led in the backfield by freshman Tim Ousley and are looking to pull the upset of the season. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pregame at 7:15 and kickoff at 7:30.

Elsewhere in Athens County tonight, Federal Hocking heads to Miller and Trimble hosts Belpre.

In NFL action last night, Tennessee outlasted Pittsburgh, 26-23.

A reminder that Ohio football returns to action tomorrow as they look to go to 7-0 against Akron for homecoming. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pregame coverage starting with the Bobcat Insider at 12:30 and kickoff at 2.

On your radio dial tonight, it’s the Sports Fan presented by J&K Contracting. That’s on 970 WATH and it’s from 6:06 to 7.
