The OHSAA released their AP state rankings yesterday. In Division III, Athens came in at 13th, receiving 12 points and one first place vote. The Bulldogs are one of six teams in the poll to receive first place votes. Also, in Division VI, Trimble came in at 13th, capturing 18 points. Trimble hosts Colonel Crawford on Friday night in the first round of the Division six playoffs. The game will be on Power 105 with pregame at 7:15 and kickoff at 7:30. Athens hosts Circleville on Saturday night in the first round of the Division three playoffs. The game can be heard on Power 105 and 970 WATH with pregame at 6:45 and kickoff at 7. Also, make sure to tune into our Playoff preview show on Wednesday night on Power 105 from 7 to 9. Special guests Coach Ryan Adams of Athens and Phil Faires of Trimble will be in studio.
The NFL has moved its trade deadline back two days to Thursday due to complications from hurricane Sandy. This is the second time the deadline has been moved this year. Earlier this year, the deadline was moved to after week eight. The NFL had hoped the two-week move would help produce more deals.
In NFL action last night, San Francisco blasted Arizona, 24-3.
The NHL is growing closer to cancelling its annual Winter Classic as the lockout standstill continues. The NHL said that the two sides have no plans to meet currently, but that the league is ready and willing to meet when necessary. The league has recently cancelled all regular season games scheduled for November and is now expected to cancel the Winter Classic on Thursday. The All-Star game is under watch to be axed as the lockout continues.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will kickoff their season tonight as they host the Washington Wizards. The Cavs finished the last season with a 21-45 record and will look to improve this season with guard Kyrie Irving back and a healthy Anderson Varejao. The Cavaliers will start rookie Dion Waiters tonight with Tyler Zeller coming off the bench. Cleveland battles Washington tonight at 7. Other NBA games tonight include Boston and Miami at 8 and Dallas and the LA Lakers at 10.
In other NBA news, the New York Knicks will be without forward Amar’e Stoudemire for at least six weeks after he re-injured his surgically repaired left knee. The Knicks had expected to get Stoudemire back within two to three weeks of the season started after he ruptured a popliteal cyst behind the knee earlier in the month. The Knicks open their season on Thursday in Brooklyn.
