The Cincinnati Bengals fell to the Denver Broncos yesterday, 31-23. The game was knotted up early in the second after the teams traded field goals. However, before the half Peyton Manning would find Eric Decker from 13-yards out for a touchdown to give Denver the lead. The Broncos added to it on a 105-yard kick return from Trindon Holliday to start the second half. But, the Bengals would climb back into the lead, on 17 unanswered points capped off by a BenJarvus Green-Ellis two-yard touchdown run. But Denver would prove to be too much as Peyton Manning threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to put it out of reach. Cincinnati is now 3-5 and will now host the New York Giants on Sunday. The Cleveland Browns fell to the Baltimore Ravens yesterday, 25-15. The Ravens came storming out of the gates, scoring twice in the first quarter behind touchdown runs from Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce. However, Cleveland responded with stellar defense and five straight field goals from Phil Dawson to give the Browns the lead. But the Ravens answered back in the fourth with a Joe Flacco 19-yard touchdown pass and a Justin Tucker field goal to put the game out of reach. Cleveland falls to 2-7 and will have their bye week this week before heading to Dallas the next.
Elsewhere in the NFL, Green Bay topped Arizona, 31-17. Houston defeated Buffalo, 21-9. Indianapolis clipped Miami, 23-20. Detroit handled Jacksonville, 31-14. Chicago blasted Tennessee, 51-20. Carolina ousted Washington, 21-13. Tampa Bay outlasted Oakland, 42-32. Seattle bested Minnesota, 30-20. Pittsburgh snuck past the New York Giants, 24-20 and Atlanta held on to beat Dallas, 19-13.
The OHSAA released their playoff sites for this weekend’s upcoming regional semifinal matchups. In Division Three, Region 12, #3 Athens will take on #7 Shawnee at Hamilton Township High School in Columbus on Saturday. The Bulldogs are coming off their first playoff win in school history over Circleville. The game can be heard on Power 105 and 970 WATH on Saturday night with pregame at 6:45 and kickoff at 7. Also in Division 6, Region 23, #3 Trimble will take on #2 Newark Catholic on Friday at Sheridan High School. The Tomcats handled Colonel Crawford in the regional quarterfinals on Friday. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pregame at 7:15 and kickoff at 7:30.
The Ohio Bobcats moved up in the AP Poll yesterday after their win over Eastern Michigan last week. The Bobcats jumped to 32nd with 22 votes. Toledo came in at 23rd, Northern Illinois came in at 26th and Kent State was 27th among MAC teams in the polls. In the Coaches Poll, Ohio came in at 32nd with 34 points. The Bobcats take on Bowling Green in a big MAC East matchup on Wednesday night. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pregame at 6:30 with the Bobcat Insider and kickoff at 8. Also, Ohio State moved into 5th in the AP Top 25 in a tie with Georgia after a convincing win over Illinois. The Buckeyes will have this week off before heading to Wisconsin next Saturday.
