The Ohio Bobcats return to action today as they wrap up the regular season with a trip to the 23rd ranked Kent State Golden Flashes. The Bobcats are coming off back-to-back losses and have fallen out of the race for a MAC Title. On the other hand, Kent State has been on a roll, having lost only one game on the season and having already clinched a MAC East title. The banged up Bobcats take on Kent State this morning. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pregame coverage beginning at 9:30 AM with the Bobcat Insider and kick off at 11.
Cincinnati Bengals center Kyle Cook worked out on Wednesday and said he is close to returning to practice for the first time since suffering an ankle injury in the Bengals’ third preseason game. Cook said there is a date set for his return, but would not share the specifics. Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden says he hopes the offensive lineman would be back by the December 9th game against Dallas. The Bengals host Oakland on Sunday. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pregame at 11:30 AM and kickoff at 1.
The Cincinnati Reds signed utility player Emmanuel Buriss to a minor-league deal yesterday. Burriss spent 2012 with the San Francisco Giants, where he hit .213 in 136 at-bats. Over parts of five seasons, Burriss hit .243 with one homer in a total of 720 at bats. In other Reds news, free-agent third baseman Scott Rolen told the organization that he may play in 2013, but has not made a decision yet. Rolen hit .245 with eight homers and 39 RBIs in 294 at-bats last year for Cincinnati.
In NFL action yesterday, Houston edged Detroit, 34-31 in overtime. Matt Schaub threw for 315 yards and a touchdown to make the Texans 10-1 on the season. Washington outlasted Dallas, 38-31. The Cowboys trailed big at the half, before a comeback fell short late. Robert Griffin III threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns to give the Redskins fifth win of the season.
In NCAA basketball’s AP Top 25 yesterday, #5 Duke bested Minnesota, 89-71. #13 Missouri topped Stanford, 78-70 and #19 Memphis was upset by VCU, 78-65.
