The AP released their High School football All-Ohio teams yesterday for Division III and IV. In Division Three, Athens wide receiver Skylar Schwarzel was first team All-State while quarterback Joey Burrow and running back Trae Williams were both second team All-Ohio. Athens’ Tyler McIntosh, John Keifer and Tanner Wood were All-State honorable mentions. Also locally, Gallia Academy quarterback Wade Jarrell was named Third team All-State and Blue Devil linebacker Ty Warnimont was named first team All-State. Finally, in Division Four, Meigs’ Dillon Boyer and Wellston’s Noah Massie were named All-State honorable mentions.
Ohio Bobcats basketball hits the hardwood tonight as they welcome St. Bonaventure. The Bobcats are 5-0 for the first time since 1969 and currently sit at 39th in the country, facing a solid Atlantic 10 squad in the Bonnies. Ohio battles St. Bonaventure tonight. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 6:30 and tip off at 7.
The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Phoenix Suns last night, 91-78. The Cavs struggled right out of the gates, scoring just 32 points in the first half. In the entire game, Cleveland scored more than 20 in a quarter just once. Cleveland shot just 35% from the field on the night and 13% from deep. The Cavaliers were led by Anderson Varejao with 20 points and 18 rebounds and Dion Waiters with 16 points. Cleveland will now head to Atlanta on Friday at 7:30.
Elsewhere in the NBA, Houston handled Toronto, 117-101 and Philadelphia edged Dallas, 100-98.
In NCAA basketball’s Top 25 yesterday, #3 Michigan bested #18 NC State, 79-72. #21 Minnesota defeated Florida State, 77-68 and #1 Indiana dominated #14 North Carolina, 83-59.
The Big East announced the addition of Tulsa and East Carolina to the conference starting in 2014 yesterday. Tulane will join in all sports, while East Carolina will join in just football. The league opted to add the two because it expects that UConn or Louisville will leave for the ACC. West Virginia, TCU, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Rutgers have all recently left the conference, with Temple having already joined and Boise State, San Diego State, Memphis, UCF, Houston and SMU scheduled to join. Tulane and East Carolina have been competing in Conference USA.
