Events and Features
Morning Sports – 11/30/12

The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Nelsonville-York heads to Federal Hocking for the high school basketball season opener. The Lancers are looking to return to the top of the TVC-Hocking behind Max Carney and head coach Howie Caldwell. However, the Buckeyes are led by Clint Handa and Marc Carter and would love to pull the upset in Stewart. It’s Nelsonville-York and Federal Hocking tonight. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pregame at 7:15 and tip off at 7:30.

Elsewhere in Athens County tonight, Alexander heads to Trimble.

In area high school girls basketball action, Federal Hocking topped Southern, 66-57 and Wellston handled Trimble, 43-24.

In NFL action last night, Atlanta bested New Orleans, 23-13.

Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Mohamed Sanu was listed as limited at practice yesterday with a foot injury. Sanu will be evaluated by the team’s medical staff this morning and Marvin Lewis will give an update after practice. Sanu has caught a touchdown in three consecutive games. If Sanu were unable to go against San Diego on Sunday, Brandon Tate could get the start. The Bengals and Chargers meet on Sunday on 970 WATH with pre game at 3 and kickoff at 4:25.

In NCAA basketball’s Top 25 last night, Notre Dame upset #8 Kentucky, 64-50. #12 Gonzaga blasted Lewis Clark State, 104-57 and #7 Florida dominated Marquette, 82-49.

The NHL and the Players’ Union met for the second straight day yesterday, but gained no traction in working for a new collective bargaining agreement through the use of a federal mediator. The sides still remain too far apart on the key issues. There are no more mediation sessions scheduled and the two sides are unlikely to consider using a mediator for future negotiations. However, the league did offer the Players’ Association a meeting between just owners and players. No response has been given yet from the Players. The lockout has already cancelled games through December 14th as well as the All-Star Game in Columbus and more cuts could be on the horizon.

A reminder that the undefeated Ohio Bobcats basketball squad is back in action tomorrow as they travel to Robert Morris. The Bobcats have notoriously struggled against a tough Colonials team. Ohio is coming off a big win over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday. The game can be heard on Power 105 on Saturday with pre game at 6:30 and tip off at 7.

On your radio dial tonight, it’s the Sports Fan presented by J&K Contracting. That’s on 970 WATH and it’s from 6:06 to 7.
