Morning Sports – 12/18/12

The Athens County Game of the week returns to Power 105 tonight as Athens travels to New Lexington for a non-conference show down. The Bulldogs are coming off of a huge win over previously undefeated Logan Elm on Saturday night and would like to continue their success on the road. However, the Panthers would love to pull the upset on the young Bulldogs and turn their season around. The game can be heard on Power 105 and 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and tip off at 7:30.

Elsewhere in Athens County tonight, Federal Hocking visits Southern and Trimble heads to South Gallia.

In area girls action tonight, Federal Hocking bested Wahama, 48-37.

On Monday Night Football last night, Tennessee topped the New York Jets, 14-10.

In NBA play last night, Oklahoma City ousted San Antonio, 107-93. Memphis topped Chicago, 80-71. The LA Clippers defeated Detroit, 88-76. Houston handled New York, 109-96. Orlando outlasted Minnesota, 102-93 and Phoenix dominated Sacramento, 101-90.

The Ohio State Buckeyes remained at #7 in the latest AP Top 25 after a win over UNC-Asheville on Saturday. Ohio State is currently 8-1 and will take on Winthrop tonight at 7 before hosting #9 Kansas on Saturday at 4. Also, the Ohio Bobcats return to action on Wednesday when they head to UMass. The Bobcats are coming off a tough loss over the weekend and will look to rebound on the road. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7 and tip off at 7:30.

In NCAA basketball Top 25 action last night, #3 Syracuse ousted Detroit for Jim Boeheim’s 900th win, 72-68. #12 Mizzouri blasted South Carolina State, 102-51. #21 UNLV clipped UTEP, 62-60 and #22 Notre Dame defeated IPFW, 74-62.

The NHL and the Players have not yet spoken since the league started a strike to send the lockout to the courts on Friday. According to Steve Fehr of the Players Association, there has been no contact between the two sides. The two sides had met on Thursday in a mediation session, but did not make any progress towards a new agreement.
