Morning Sports – 1/8/13

The Athens Bulldogs return to action tonight as they host Southeastern Ohio power Warren. The Bulldogs are on a roll, having won five in a row including a dominating performance over rival Nelsonville-York on Friday behind freshman Ibi Watson’s 23 points. However, Warren comes in with just one loss and a stellar offense led by junior Evan French. The Bulldogs and Warriors do battle tonight on 970 WATH and 97.1 FM with pre game at 7:20 and tip off at 7:35.

The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Alexander travels to Federal Hocking. The Spartans have started to pick up some steam, having won two of their last three behind senior forward Braden Jones. However, the host Lancers are in the drivers seat in the TVC-Hocking and will look to continue their roll led by senior post man Max Carney. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:20 and tip off at 7:35.

Elsewhere in area hoops tonight, Vinton County is at Wellston. Eastern hosts Waterford. Miller heads to Southern. Belpre visits South Gallia and Trimble welcomes Wahama.

In area girls basketball action last night, Athens fell to Jackson, 56-51. Ironton edged Vinton County, 48-45. Logan handled Alexander, 46-22. Eastern blew past Federal Hocking, 64-15. Waterford toppled Trimble, 80-34 and Belpre clipped Southern, 63-60.

In the BCS National Championship last night, #2 Alabama blew past #1 Notre Dame, 42-14. The Crimson Tide were led by Eddie Lacy on the ground with 140 yards and a touchdown. Alabama has won back-to-back national titles and their third in four years.

In NCAA basketball’s Top 25 last night, #5 Indiana handled Penn State, 74-51 and #17 Notre Dame bested #21 Cincinnati, 66-60.

The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Chicago Bulls last night, 118-92. The Cavs led by eight after one quarter, but it was all Chicago from that point on. The Bulls outscored Cleveland by 34 the rest of the night. The Cavs were led by CJ Miles and Kyrie Irving with 15 points. Cleveland will now host Atlanta on Wednesday night at 7.

Elsewhere in the NBA yesterday, New Orleans topped San Antonio, 95-88. Boston bested New York, 102-96. Washington upset Oklahoma City, 101-99 and Utah outlasted Dallas, 100-94.
