Morning Sports – 1/11/13

The Athens County game of the week returns to Power 105 tonight as the Athens Bulldogs visit Alexander for a TVC-Ohio and Athens County rivalry matchup. The Bulldogs have a relentless offensive attack led by freshman Ibi Watson and sophomore Joey Burrow. The Bulldogs come in at 7-2 on the season, but the Spartans are upset minded behind senior post-man Braden Jones. The Athens County rivalry can be heard from the Alley in Albany tonight on Power 105 and 970 WATH with pre game at 7:20 and tip off at 7:35.

Elsewhere in area boys basketball tonight, Nelsonville-York travels to Meigs. Federal Hocking welcomes South Gallia. Eastern heads to Belpre. Trimble visits Waterford and Miller goes to Wahama.

In area girls basketball action last night, Athens handled Alexander, 50-30. Vinton County blew past Nelsonville-York, 57-35. Eastern outlasted Warren, 64-55. South Gallia topped Belpre, 59-49. Trimble ousted Miller, 50-46 and Federal Hocking edged Wahama, 49-43.

The Ohio Lady Bobcats fell at home in their MAC opener to Akron last night, 81-54. Ohio led halfway through the first by one, but Akron closed the first half on a 31-6 run to pull away. Ohio could not close the gap in the second half and picked up their eighth loss of the season. The Lady Cats were led by Erin Bailes with 10 points and Tina Fisher with nine points and nine rebounds. The Ohio women return to action on Sunday as they head to Buffalo on Sunday night at 7.

The Ohio Bobcat men’s basketball team returns to action tomorrow afternoon looking to continue their strong start to MAC play on the road at Western Michigan. The Bobcats are coming off of a pair of dominating performances, but have yet to win on the road this season. Ohio and Western Michigan can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 1:30 and tip off at 2.

The Cleveland Browns hired Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski yesterday to be there new head coach. Chudzinski has had two stints in Cleveland, most recently in 2007 and 2008 as the offensive coordinator for the Browns. Cleveland had been searching for a coach since the end of the season when they fired Pat Shurmur after a 5-11 season. Chudzinski has spend the past two seasons with Carolina working with Cam Newton and the Panther offense. Chudzinski will be the sixth Cleveland head coach since the team returned in 1999.
