The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Belpre heads to Federal Hocking for a critical TVC-Hocking clash. The Lancers have put themselves in the drivers seat in the conference, but will look to avenge a loss early in the season to the defending champs. Belpre sits just a game out of first place and the Golden Eagles will look to claim their spot at the top again. The game can be heard on Power 105 tonight with pre game at 7:20 and tip off at 7:35.
The Athens Bulldogs host SEOAL rival Jackson tonight. The Bulldogs have continued to roll along early on in the season and sit 9-2 half way through the season. However, the struggling Ironmen would love to catch the Dogs looking ahead to TVC-Ohio rival Vinton County. The game can be heard tonight on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:20 and tip off at 7:35.
Elsewhere in area boys basketball tonight, Nelsonville-York is at River Valley. Eastern travels to Wellston. Trimble visits Miller and Waterford welcomes Southern.
In area girls action last night, Athens handled Meigs, 53-33. Waterford blew past Federal Hocking, 80-33. Vinton County bested Alexander, 50-31 and South Gallia outlasted Trimble, 56-40.
Ohio point guard DJ Cooper won his second-straight MAC East Player of the week yesterday. Cooper averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 assists to help lead Ohio to a 2-0 start to MAC play. Cooper currently is tied for second in the nation with 8.3 assists per game. The Bobcats return to action tomorrow as they host Northern Illinois. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 6:06 with the Bobcat Insider and tip off at 7.
The Ohio State Buckeyes climbed to #11 in the AP Top 25 yesterday after a big upset win over previously unbeaten Michigan on Sunday. The Buckeyes will next head to #18 Michigan State on Saturday at 6:30.
The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Sacramento Kings last night, 124-118. The Cavs struggled defensively all night, giving up 69 points in the first half. The Kings shot 51 percent on the night and hit nine treys. Cleveland cut the gap to as little as three late, but could not complete the comeback. The Cavs were led by Dion Waiters with 33 points and5 assists. The Cavaliers will now travel to Portland on Wednesday night at 10.
Elsewhere in the NBA last night, Boston handled Charlotte, 100-89. Washington dominated Orlando, 120-91. The LA Clippers blew past Memphis, 99-73. Chicago toppled Atlanta, 97-58. Oklahoma City topped Phoenix, 102-90. Dallas ousted Minnesota, 113-98 and Utah knocked off Miami, 104-97.
