The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Nelsonville-York travels to Vinton County. The Buckeyes are riding a four-game winning streak and would love to climb back into the TVC-Ohio title race while looking for some revenge for an early season loss to the Vikings. Vinton County, however, sits tied atop the conference and will look to keep pace behind senior leader Jordan Kidd. The Athens Bulldogs travel to Wellston tonight looking for some revenge for an early season loss to the Golden Rockets. The Bulldogs have yet to lose on the road and sit atop the conference behind a five-game winning streak. However, the Golden Rockets, led by senior center Justus Ousley would love to give Athens their third loss of the season on their home floor. In area girls action last night, Athens handled Nelsonville-York, 57-32. Dominique Doseck led the Dogs with 21 points. Alexander bested Meigs, 49-40. Vinton County handled Wellston, 55-31. Eastern blew past Belpre, 76-26. Waterford dominated Miller, 72-36 and Federal Hocking fell to South Gallia, 56-36.
The Columbus Blue Jackets were shutout last night by the Colorado Avalanche, 4-0. The Avalanche jumped right on the Blue Jackets, just 50 seconds into the game when PA Parenteau tallied a goal to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. The Avalanche added to the lead late in the first on a Matt Duchene wrist shot goal. The Avalanche would put the game out of reach early in the third period on a John Mitchell goal. The Blue Jackets will now return home to host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
Elsewhere in the NHL yesterday, St. Louis blanked Nashville, 3-0. Ottawa bested Florida, 3-1. Carolina blew past Buffalo, 6-3. Montreal handled Washington, 4-1. Philadelphia edged the New York Rangers, 2-1 and the New York Islanders blasted Toronto, 7-4.
In NBA action last night, Toronto edged Orlando, 97-95 and New York outlasted Boston, 89-86.
Finally, in NCAA top 25 action, Richmond upset #19 VCU, 86-74. #2 Michigan handled Purdue, 68-53. #23 Ole Miss bested Tennessee, 62-56 and UCLA knocked off #6 Arizona, 84-73.
