In the NFL’s Pro Bowl last night, the NFC blew past the AFC All-Stars, 62-35. The AFC led early in the second, but the NFC would score 28 unanswered to pull away into the third quarter. Cincinnati Bengal’s wide out A.J. Green caught the first touchdown of the ball game on a six-yard pass from Peyton Manning. Bengals tight tend Jermaine Gresham had one catch for five yards and Geno Atkins tallied one tackle. Cleveland Browns wide out and kick returner Josh Cribbs caught three passes for 56 yards and a touchdown and Browns kicker Phil Dawson was five-of-five on extra points. The Super Bowl is next on Sunday, featuring San Francisco and Baltimore at 6:30.
The Columbus Blue Jackets return to the ice tonight as they welcome the Dallas Stars. After a season opening victory, the Blue Jackets have lost four straight and are looking to turn things around at home. The Stars won three of the four meetings against Columbus last season and Dallas enters the game with a 2-2 record. The Jackets and Stars clash tonight on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
In NHL action last night, Tampa Bay dominated Philadelphia, 5-1. Montreal clipped New Jersey, 4-3 in overtime. Pittsburgh edged Ottawa, 2-1 in a shootout. Washington ousted Buffalo, 3-2. Winnipeg snuck past the New York Islanders, 5-4 in overtime and San Jose blasted Vancouver, 4-1.
In NBA play yesterday, New Orleans bested Memphis, 91-83. Detroit edged Orlando, 104-102. The LA Lakers knocked off Oklahoma City, 105-96. Boston outlasted Miami, 100-98 in two overtimes. Dallas toppled Phoenix, 110-95 and New York snuck past Atlanta, 106-104.
In other NBA news, the Boston Celtics learned that All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. The star guard was injured in Sunday’s victory over the Miami Heat. Rondo will undergo surgery and hopes to be back for the start of next year. The guard was averaging 13.7 points per game with 11.1 assists in 38 games.
In NCAA basketball’s Top 25 yesterday, #2 Michigan topped Illinois, 74-60. #7 Indiana outlasted #13 Michigan State, 75-70. #17 Creighton handled Southern Illinois, 81-51 and #25 Miami blasted Florida State, 71-47.
