The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Federal Hocking welcomes Southern for a TVC-Hocking battle. The TVC-Hocking leading Lancers are coming off of an upset loss at Wahama over the weekend and will look to bounce back with a win over the Tornadoes. However, Southern is led by 6-7 center Chandler Drummer and the Tornadoes have upset on their minds as they head to Stewart. The game can be heard on Power 105 tonight with pre game at 7:15 and tip off at 7:30.
The Athens Bulldogs return to the hardwood for the first time in a week and a half tonight as they welcome Logan. The Bulldogs are on a roll of late, having won their last five games and will look to improve their playoff standing with seeding around the corner. However, the Chieftans are looking to rekindle and old rivalry by capturing their first win in non-conference play this year. The game can be heard on 970 WATH tonight with pre game at 7:15 and tip at 7:30.
In other area boys hoops tonight, Nelsonville-York travels to Crooksville. Alexander welcomes Meigs. Trimble hosts South Gallia. Wahama heads to Eastern. Belpre is at Miller and Vinton County heads to Gallia Academy.
In area girls action last night, Athens bested Oak Hill, 48-40. Alexander fell to Minford, 45-37. Southern topped Trimble, 63-47. Belpre defeated Federal Hocking, 67-53 and Waterford handled Eastern, 63-46.
Ohio Bobcats guard DJ Cooper was named Co-MAC East Player of the week yesterday along with Akron center Zeke Marshall. Cooper averaged 20 points and 7 assists over the past week in helping Ohio to two road wins. Cooper put up 23 points and five assists in Ohio’s big win over Kent State on Saturday. It is the fourth time this season Coop has been named Player of the Week. The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday as they host Eastern Michigan. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 6:06 with the Bobcat Insider and tip off at 7.
The Columbus Blue Jackets topped the Dallas Stars last night, 2-1 to snap a four-game losing streak. The Stars were on the board first when Philip Larsen tallied a power play goal early in the second. However, Columbus would answer with a Derek Dorsett snap shot goal late in the second to knot the game at one. In the opening minutes of the third period, Vinny Prospal poked the puck into the back of the net on a wrist shot to give Columbus the lead and ultimately, the win. The Jackets will now head to Minnesota tonight at 8.
In NBA action yesterday, Chicago bested Charlotte, 93-85. Brooklyn handled Orlando, 97-77. Sacramento edged Washington, 96-94. Memphis clipped Philadelphia, 103-100. Golden State toppled Toronto, 114-102 and Houston dominated Utah, 125-80.
