The Athens Bulldogs fell on a buzzer beater three to the Logan Chieftans last night, 70-69 in overtime. The Bulldogs came racing out of the gates to a 12-0 lead and led for the majority of the game. However, in the fourth quarter the Chieftans would take a six-point lead with a minute to play. Athens would climb back into the game and Joey Burrow would drain a fade-away shot in the corner to tie the game and send it to overtime. In overtime, Athens led by as many as six with a minute to go, but the Bulldogs would miss some key free throws and give the Chieftans a chance. With seconds left, Chance Cox would drill a trey at the buzzer to give Logan the win. The Bulldogs were led by Joey Burrow with 21 points. Athens will now head to Wellston tonight. In other area boys hoops last night, Trimble fell to Wahama, 63-55. Miller toppled Southern, 56-37. Fairland bested Meigs, 54-39 and Zane Trace defeated Wellston, 65-51.
The Columbus Blue Jackets fell to the LA Kings last night, 4-2. The Jackets got on the board first on a Derek Mackenzie deflection for a goal in the first. The Kings scored two straight in the second to the take lead. But Columbus would answer just a minute later on a Derrick Brassard backhand goal. However, the Kings would put the game out of reach on a goal in the second and late in the third. The Blue Jackets will now host Calgary on Thursday night. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
Elsewhere in the NHL, Nashville dominated St. Louis, 6-1. Winnipeg snuck past Florida, 3-2 in overtime. Calgary handled Detroit, 4-1. Philadelphia edged Tampa Bay, 2-1. Ottawa clipped Buffalo, 4-3. Toronto ousted Washington, 3-2. Pittsburgh topped the New York Islanders, 4-2 and New Jersey blew past the New York Rangers, 3-1.
The Ohio State Buckeyes fell to #3 Michigan yesterday, 76-74 in overtime. The Buckeyes and Wolverines were neck-and-neck after one half as Ohio State led by one. After a back and forth second half, the game would head to overtime. With seconds left in overtime and the Bucks down by two, Aaron Craft would drive the length of the floor only to have his layup blocked under the basket to give Ohio State their fifth loss. The Buckeyes will now host top-ranked Indiana on Sunday at 1.
The Ohio Bobcats return to action tonight as they travel to Ball State. The Bobcats will look to rebound after their first loss in MAC play on Saturday against the Cardinals. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 6:30 and tip off at 7.
In NBA action last night, Denver toppled Milwaukee, 112-104. Houston dominated Golden State behind 23 treys, 140-109. Phoenix defeated Memphis, 96-90. The LA Lakers topped Brooklyn, 92-83 and Indiana handled Atlanta, 114-103.
