Morning Sports – 2/7/13

The Athens Bulldogs dominated the Wellston Golden Rockets last night, 86-51. The Bulldogs defense was stifling, shutting the Rockets down in the first half en route to a big lead at the break. Joey Burrow paced Athens with 32 points on the night as Athens picked up their sixth conference win. The Bulldogs will now host rival Nelsonville-York tomorrow night on Power 105 and 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and tip off at 7:30.

The Ohio Bobcats blew past the Ball State Cardinals yesterday, 69-42. The Bobcats took a 10-point lead out of the gates and never looked back. The suffocating Ohio defense held Ball State to just 26% from the field on the night and forced 22 turnovers. The Bobcats shot a solid 44% from the field and hit seven treys on the night to pick up their seventh MAC win. Ohio was led by Walter Offutt with 17 points and T.J. Hall with 10. The Bobcats will now return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Bowling Green. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 1 with the Bobcat Insider and tip off at 2.

The Ohio Lady Bobcats fell to Northern Illinois last night, 73-52. The Huskies were tough to stop offensively, shooting 59% from the field and 66% from deep. Ohio would bring the game to as close as eight near half, but Northern Illinois would go on a 16-7 run to finish the half and take a big lead into the break. The Lady Cats were led by Symone Lyles with 13 points. The Ohio women will now head to Eastern Michigan on Saturday at noon.

In MAC men’s action last night, Eastern Michigan blew past Buffalo, 65-46. Western Michigan outlasted Kent State, 82-76. Toledo clipped Miami, 65-64 and Bowling Green handled Northern Illinois, 57-41.

In NCAA hoops Top 25 action yesterday, #11 Louisville handled Rutgers, 68-48. #12 Michigan State bested #18 Minnesota, 61-50. #14 Butler blew past St. Bonaventure, 77-58. Indiana State upset #16 Creighton, 76-57. Providence knocked off #17 Cincinnati, 54-50. #22 Oklahoma State clipped Baylor, 69-67 in overtime and #24 Marquette blasted South Florida, 70-47.

The Cleveland Cavaliers dominated the Charlotte Bobcats last night, 122-95. The Cavs shot a blistering 56% on the night and jumped out to a 24-point lead at the half en route to the blowout win. Cleveland was led by Kyrie Irving with 22 points. The Cavaliers will now host Orlando on Friday night at 7:30.

Elsewhere in the NBA, Oklahoma City blew past Golden State, 119-98. New Orleans bested Phoenix, 93-84. Brooklyn clipped Detroit, 93-90. Miami outlasted Houston, 114-108. Atlanta defeated Memphis, 103-92. The LA Clippers ousted Orlando, 86-76. Washington handled New York, 106-96. Indiana dominated Philadelphia, 88-69. Boston edged Toronto, 99-95 and Dallas bested Portland, 105-99.

The Columbus Blue Jackets return to action tonight as they host the Calgary Flames. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
