The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as Federal Hocking travels to Glouster to battle the Trimble Tomcats. The Lancers are a win away from clinching an outright TVC-Hocking title for the first time in five years. However, Bill White Gymnasium is never an easy place to play and the Tomcats are looking to pull the upset in the final game of the season. The Lancers and Tomcats battle for Athens County supremacy on Power 105 tonight with pre game at 7:15 and tip off at 7:30.
The Athens Bulldogs wrap up their regular season tonight as they host county rival Alexander. The Bulldogs are coming off of a tough loss to Vinton County on Tuesday and will look to turn things around on senior night with playoffs around the corner. However, the scrappy Spartans led by Braden Jones will look to pull the upset in the Plains. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and tip off at 7:30.
In other area boys hoops tonight, Meigs heads to Nelsonville-York. Vinton County welcomes Wellston. Waterford visits Belpre. Eastern is at Southern and South Gallia hosts Miller.
In area girls hoops last night, Athens won a sectional championship by defeating Sheridan, 55-38. Dominique Doseck led the Dogs with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Athens will now face the winner of Unioto/McClain on February 23rd at 1:45 in the District Semifinal. Also, Eastern blew past Federal Hocking, 78-24.
The Ohio State Buckeyes came back to beat Northwestern last night, 69-59. The Buckeyes and Wildcats were knotted up after one half, but Northwestern would rush out in the second half to take a five-point lead midway through. However, Deshaun Thomas would push the Buckeyes back on top with some key baskets to give Ohio State the win. Thomas finished with 22 points. The Buckeyes will now head to #20 Wisconsin on Sunday at 1.
In other NCAA Top 25 action last night, #12 Louisville blew past St. John’s, 72-58 and Minnesota upset #20 Wisconsin, 58-53 in overtime.
The Ohio Bobcats return to action tomorrow, looking for their first season sweep of Kent State since 2001. The Bobcats have won three in a row, but face a tough test in the stellar offensive attack of the Golden Flashes. The game can be heard on Power 105 tomorrow morning with pre game coverage starting at 10 AM with the Bobcat Insider and tip off at 11 AM.
In NHL play yesterday, Colorado edged Minnesota, 4-3 in a shootout. Nashville blanked Phoenix, 3-0. Montreal shutout Florida, 1-0 in overtime. Washington clipped Tampa Bay, 4-3. Carolina bested Toronto, 3-1 and the New York Islanders snuck past the New York Rangers, 4-3 in a shootout.
In NBA action last night, Miami ousted Oklahoma City, 110-100.
