The Athens Bulldogs advanced to the District Title game last night with a 59-49 comeback win over Chillicothe at the Convo. The Bulldogs came out sluggish, trailing by 13 at the intermission. However, Joey Burrow would come out with intensity in the second half, tallying 12 points in the third and fourth to lead Athens back into the game. The Bulldogs cut the lead to six heading into the fourth and closed the gap behind big buckets from freshman Ibi Watson, who led the team with 20 points. Athens took the lead midway through the fourth and never let go, outscoring the Cavs by 23 in the second half. Athens will now advance to play Miami Trace in the District Final next Thursday night at the Convo. The game can be heard on Power 105 and 970 WATH with pre game at 6 and tip off at 6:15.
The Ohio Lady Bobcats fell on the road to the Akron Zips last night, 98-82. The Bobcats came out hot, leading by two with 6:48 left in the first half, but the Zips responded to take a six point lead at the intermission. The Zips jumped out to a 10-point lead in the second half and eventually push it out to 18. The Lady Cats closed it to as small as an 11 point gap, but would fall short. Erin Bailes led the Bobcats with 33 points as she is the first Lady Cat to score 30 or more points since 2006. The Ohio women will now head to Bowling Green on Sunday at 1.
The Ohio men return to action tomorrow as they travel to Bowling Green. The Bobcats are coming off a tough overtime loss to rival Akron on Wednesday and will look to turn things around on Saturday at BG. The game can be heard tomorrow on Power 105 with pre game at 11:30 AM and tip off at noon.
The Ohio State Buckeyes outlasted Northwestern last night, 63-53. The Buckeyes led by seven after the first half, but the Wildcats would come storming back. Northwestern led by one with about four minutes left, but the Buckeyes would go on a 15-4 run to finish the game and take the road victory. Ohio State will now head to Indiana next Tuesday at 9.
In NCAA top 25 action last night, Virginia knocked off #3 Duke, 73-68 and #25 Louisiana Tech handled Utah State, 84-61.
In NBA play yesterday, Chicago topped Philadelphia, 93-82 and the LA Clippers ousted Indiana, 99-91.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are back on the ice tonight as they take on the undefeated Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks have a pair of one goal victories over Columbus this season, but the Jackets will look to give the Blackhawks their first loss of the season on the road. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 8:15 and drop of the puck at 8:30.
