Morning Sports – 3/5/13

The Athens Lady Bulldogs continue their playoff run tonight as they take on Fairfield Union in the Regional Semifinals at Zanesville high school. The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a big upset win in the District Final over Jackson and will look to extend their playoff run to the Elite Eight tonight. Athens has never won a regional game in school history, but Dominique Doseck and the Lady Dogs are looking to change that. Athens battles Fairfield Union in the regional semifinals tonight on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:45 and tip off at 8.

In Division Four District Semifinals last night, Notre Dame edged Eastern, 43-42 and East handled Waterford, 53-37.

The Ohio Bobcats are back in action tonight as they travel to Buffalo for their final roadtrip of the season. The Bobcats have a pair of games left in the regular season and have already locked up at least the #2 seed in the MAC tournament next week. Ohio and Buffalo square off tonight on Power 105 with pre game at 6:30 and tip off at 7.

In NCAA Top 25 action last night, #4 Kansas blasted Texas Tech, 79-42 and #8 Louisville handled Cincinnati, 67-51.

The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the New York Knicks last night, 102-97. The Cavs came flying out of the gates, leading by 12 at the half behind 68 percent shooting from the field. However, the Cavs would shoot just 11-35 in the second half and blow a 22 point lead as the Knicks climbed back to pick up the win. The Cavs were led by Marreese Speights with 23 points and Kyrie Irving with 22. Cleveland will now host Utah on Wednesday night at 7.

Elsewhere in the NBA, Miami handled Minnesota, 97-81. Orlando edged New Orleans, 105-102 and Milwaukee clipped Utah, 109-108 in overtime.

In Spring training action yesterday, Cincinnati fell to Arizona, 7-2. Reds ace Johnny Cueto worked three innings in his second outing of the spring, giving up one run and striking out four. Zack Cozart blasted a solo homer in the first for the Reds and Xavier Paul scored on an RBI groundout in the seventh. Cincinnati will now take on the LA Angels today at 3.

In NHL action yesterday, Pittsburgh clipped Tampa Bay, 4-3 and Toronto bested New Jersey, 4-2.
