Morning Sports – 3/6/13

The Ohio Bobcats edged out the Buffalo Bulls last night, 72-69. Buffalo took the lead early, jumping out to a 19-9 advantage. But the Bobcats would go on a 15-4 run to give Ohio the lead late in the first half. The Bobcats would lead by five at the break, but Buffalo would comeback from down nine in the second half and lead by two with two minutes left in the game. However, DJ Cooper would knock down a trey to give Ohio the lead and with seconds left Reggie Keely swatted a desperation shot by the Bulls to give Ohio the win. Cooper led Ohio with 24 points and became the only player in NCAA history to tally 2,000 points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds and 300 steals. The Bobcats return home for senior day on Saturday as they take on rival Miami. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 3 with the Bobcat Insider and tip off at 4.

In other MAC action last night, Akron handled Miami, 72-58. Central Michigan edged Eastern Michigan, 61-59. Kent State bested Bowling Green, 69-61. Toledo blew past Northern Illinois, 70-46 and Ball State outlasted Western Michigan, 89-85.

The Ohio State Buckeyes knocked off 2nd ranked Indiana last night, 67-58. Ohio State led by three at the break, but pulled away in the second half led by Aaron Craft with 15 points, 4 steals and 4 assists. The Buckeyes will now host Illinois on Sunday at 12:30.

In other Top 25 action last night, #3 Duke handled Virginia Tech, 85-57. #9 Kansas State defeated TCU, 79-68. #15 Marquette ousted Rutgers, 60-54. #24 Notre Dame dominated St. Johns, 66-40 and #25 Memphis clipped UTEP, 56-54.

The Athens Lady Bulldogs fell in the regional semifinals last night to Fairfield Union, 42-37. The Lady Bulldogs came roaring out of the gates, jumping on top by as many as 15 early in the game en route to an 11-point halftime lead. However, the Lady Falcons would climb back into the ball game late, forcing 20 Athens turnovers in the second half to pull off the comeback. Hannah Debruin led the Lady Dogs with 12 points. The Lady Bulldogs finish the season 22-3. The Athens boys will battle for a District Title tomorrow against Miami Trace at the Convo on Power 105 and 970 WATH with pre game at 6 and tip off at 6:15.

In boys hoops playoff action last night, Miller fell to South Webster, 51-30.

The Columbus Blue Jackets edged out Edmonton last night, 4-3 in a shootout. The game went back and forth early on with the score tied at two after one period. After an Oilers goal early in the second, Jack Johnson tallied a snap shot goal to tie it. After a scoreless third period and overtime, the game headed to a shootout in which Sergei Bobrovsky would deny every Edmonton shot and Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu would come through to give Columbus the win. The Jackets are back in action on Thursday night as they host Vancouver at 7.

In NBA action last night, Denver bested Sacramento, 120-113. Oklahoma City handled the LA Lakers, 122-105 and Boston topped Philadelphia, 109-101.
