The All-MAC teams were released yesterday, with Ohio netting three All-MAC players. Ohio guard DJ Cooper was selected to the first team for the third time in his career. Also, Ohio forward Reggie Keely and guard Walter Offutt were named to the third team. The Bobcats start their MAC Tournament run on Friday night in the semifinals. In MAC Tournament action last night, Buffalo held off Central Michigan, 74-72 in overtime. Miami knocked off Bowling Green, 63-52 and Eastern Michigan snuck past Northern Illinois, 45-44.
In NCAA action yesterday, James Madison toppled Northeastern, 70-57 in the CAA Championship. Davidson handled Charleston, 74-55 to win the Southern Conference Championship. Western Kentucky edged Florida International to win the Sun Belt, 65-63. #1 Gonzaga blew past Saint Mary’s to win the West Coast Conference, 65-51 and Iona outlasted Manhattan, 60-57 to win the MAAC.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving will have to sit out three to four weeks after spraining his left shoulder. The second year guard has missed 29 games in his first two years and could miss the rest of this year. Irving was injured on Saturday night during a collision in a game with Toronto. Irving is averaging 23 points per night and 5.7 assists for the Cavs who host Washington tonight at 7.
In NBA play yesterday, Philadelphia topped Brooklyn, 106-97. San Antonio handled Oklahoma City, 105-93 and Utah toppled Detroit, 103-90.
In NFL news yesterday, the Baltimore Ravens traded wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers for a sixth-round draft pick. Boldin caught 22 passes for 380 yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs to help lead Baltimore to Super Bowl win. Also, the Minnesota Vikings dealt wide out Percy Harvin to the Seattle Seahawks yesterday. The trade includes the Seahawks sending their first-round pick to the Vikings. Harvin caught 62 passes for 677 yards in about half of a season last year.
The Columbus Blue Jackets return to the ice tonight looking to extend a five game winning streak as they host the Vancouver Canucks. The Jackets topped Vancouver last week in overtime and will look for a franchise record of six straight victories. The game can be heard on 970 WATH and 97.1 FM with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
