The OHSAA released the All-Ohio teams for Division 2 yesterday. Jordan Kidd of Vinton County was named to the All-Ohio second team while Joey Burrow of Athens was placed on the All-Ohio third team. Athens’ Ibi Watson and L.B. Remy of Vinton County were given All-Ohio honorable mention.
The Ohio Bobcats start postseason play tonight in the NIT as they battle Denver in the first round. Ohio received the sixth seed in the tournament on Sunday and will play the Pioneers out of the Western Athletic Conference. The last time the Bobcats took part in the NIT was back in 1995. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 8:15 with the Bobcat Insider and tip off at 9:15.
The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to Indiana last night, 111-90. Indiana dominated the entire game, leading by 15 at the intermission and pushing the lead out to 25 after three quarters. The Cavalier defense struggled to slow down Indiana all night as five Pacers scored in double digits. The Cavs were led CJ Miles with 21 points and Tristan Thompson with 20. Cleveland will now host Miami on Wednesday at 7.
Elsewhere in the NBA, Golden State handled New Orleans, 93-72. Memphis toppled Minnesota, 92-77. Denver outlasted Chicago, 119-118 in overtime. Miami clipped Boston, 105-103. Brooklyn dominated Detroit, 119-82. Dallas blew past Atlanta, 127-113. Charlotte bested Washington, 119-114 and Philadelphia clipped Portland, 101-100.
The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed linebacker Rey Maualuga yesterday to a two-year deal worth $6.5 million. The 26-year old captain of the defense played an integral role in Cincinnati making the playoffs, tallying 122 tackles. Maualuga represents the fourth Bengals defensive player that has been re-signed this offseason.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are back on the ice tonight as they host the Nashville Predators. The Jackets are on a franchise-record point streak in which they have not lost in regulation in 11-straight games. The Predators have lost three straight and are tied with Columbus in 11th place in the Western Conference. Columbus and Nashville clash tonight at Nationwide arena on 970 WATH and 97.1 FM with pre game at 6:45 and drop of the puck at 7.
In NHL action last night, Dallas edged Calgary, 4-3. Tampa Bay bested Philadelphia, 4-2. The New York Rangers snuck past Carolina, 2-1 in a shootout and Chicago blew past Colorado, 5-2.
