The Cincinnati Reds came back to beat the Chicago Cubs, 5-4 in 13 innings. The Cubs took the lead right away when David DeJesus led the game off with a solo homer. The Cubs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third on a Starlin Castro RBI single. However, the Reds would answer in the seventh to tie the game on a solo homer from Jay Bruce and a Jack Hannahan RBI triple. In the 13th inning, the Cubs would take a two-run lead on a two-run blast from Luis Valbuena. But the Reds would not roll over as Jay Bruce delivered a two-RBI double to tie the game and then with two outs, Cesar Izturis came through with an RBI single. The Reds are now 12-8 and will take on the Cubs again tonight. Tony Cingrani will duel against Carlos Villanueva. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.
The Cleveland Indians edged the Chicago White Sox last night, 3-2. The Tribe got on the board first on a Lonnie Chisenhall RBI double in the second. However, the White Sox responded in the bottom half with a Chris Gillaspie solo homer and took the lead in the fourth on an RBI double from Hector Gimenez. But the Indians would fight back in the eighth when Asdrubal Cabrera delivered a crucial two-RBI single that would give Cleveland the win. Justin Masterson picked up his fourth win of the season, throwing seven innings and giving up two runs on four hits. Cleveland continues their series in Chicago tonight at 8.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Seattle toppled Houston, 7-1. Philadelphia clipped Pittsburgh, 3-2. Baltimore edged Toronto, 2-1. St. Louis ousted Washington, 3-2. Tampa Bay handled the New York Yankees, 5-1 and Boston outlasted Oakland, 9-6.
In area high school baseball action last night, Athens snuck past Meigs, 5-4. Alexander topped Nelsonville-York, 4-1. Wellston blanked Vinton County, 7-0. Southern handled Waterford, 14-1. Trimble defeated Miller, 7-3 and Federal Hocking dominated Belpre, 12-2.
In area high school softball, Meigs dominated Athens, 15-1. Alexander defeated Nelsonville-York, 10-6. Wellston handled Vinton County, 10-3. Trimble blew past Miller, 19-5 and Federal Hocking ousted Belpre, 9-2.
In NBA playoff action last night, the Chicago Bulls topped the Brooklyn Nets, 90-82 to tie the series at two.
