The Cincinnati Reds clipped the Chicago Cubs in a pitchers duel, 1-0. The Reds and Cubs were scoreless through five innings, but the Reds finally got to Jeff Samardzija in the sixth when Todd Frazier blasted a solo shot. The Reds got stellar pitching from Mat Latos, who threw seven scoreless innings and surrendered just four hits with four strikeouts. With the win, the Reds are now 13-9. Cincinnati will now head to Washington for a four game set tonight. Bronson Arroyo will face off against Gio Gonzalez in the opener. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:35 and first pitch at 7:05.
The Cleveland Indians fell to the Chicago White Sox yesterday, 3-2. The White Sox took an early 1-0 lead in the first and pushed it out to a three-run lead in the fifth when Alex Rios crushed a two-run homer. The Indians responded in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Jason Kipnis and a sac-fly from Mark Reynolds, but the comeback would stop there. Cleveland will have today off before head to Kansas City on Friday night at 8.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Tampa Bay blanked the New York Yankees, 3-0. Pittsburgh bested Philadelphia, 5-3. Boston clipped Oakland, 6-5. Arizona outlasted San Francisco, 3-2 in 10 innings. Colorado edged Atlanta, 6-5 in 12 innings. Houston handled Seattle, 10-3. St. Louis bested Washington, 4-2. Toronto snuck past Baltimore, 6-5 in 11 innings and Detroit defeated Kansas City, 7-5.
Ohio baseball fell to Marshall last night, 4-2. The Thundering Herd took a two run lead after three innings, but Ohio would come right back in the fourth. The Bobcats tallied two in the fourth behind a Ben Otto two-run blast. However, Marshall responded with one in the bottom half and one in the sixth to put the game away. Ohio will now head to Ball State on Friday at 3.
According to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times, the Cleveland Browns are close to acquiring Miami Dolphins wide receiver Davone Bess. The 27-year old had 61 catches for 778 yards last year with one touchdown. Bess would be a slot receiver in Cleveland and the Dolphins are looking for draft picks in return. The NFL Draft begins tonight with the first round. Cleveland holds the sixth overall pick in the first round and the Bengals hold the 21st pick.
In NBA playoff action last night, Oklahoma City took a 2-0 series lead over Houston with a 105-102 win and Indiana took a 2-0 series lead with a 113-98 win over Atlanta.
In NHL action yesterday, Detroit bested the LA Kings, 3-1 and Tampa Bay blew past Toronto, 5-2.
