The Cincinnati Reds edged the Miami Marlins last night, 5-3 in 10 innings to capture a sweep. The Marlins were on the board in the first inning on a Juan Pierre solo homer, but the Reds responded on a Jay Bruce RBI single in the fourth and a Brandon Phillips solo blast in the sixth. In the ninth, the Marlins would tie the game on a Marcell Ozuna RBI triple. However, Cincinnati would come right back behind a Jay Bruce RBI double in the 10th to clinch a victory. The Reds are now 25-16 and will head to Philadelphia tonight. Tony Cingrani will take the hill against Cliff Lee. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:35 and first pitch at 7:05.
The Cleveland Indians are back in action tonight as they host the Seattle Mariners. Ubaldo Jimenez will matchup against Brandon Maurer at 7.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Pittsburgh toppled Milwaukee, 7-1. The New York Mets bested St. Louis, 5-2. Seattle clipped the New York Yankees, 3-2 and Boston snuck past Tampa Bay, 4-3.
Ohio baseball fell to rival Miami last night, 12-7. After the Redhawks took an early lead, the Bobcats jumped on Miami, scoring five times in the third behind RBI singles from Nick Squires, Jake Madsen and Cody Gaertner. However, Miami came right back to take the lead behind three in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth to claim a win. Ohio baseball will battle Miami today at 6.
In area high school baseball playoff action last night, Athens fell to Warren, 5-4.
In NBA playoff action last night, New York cut the Indiana series lead to 3-2 with an 85-75 win.
In NHL Stanley Cup playoff play yesterday, Boston clipped the New York Rangers, 3-2 in overtime.
