Morning Sports – 5/28/13

The Cincinnati Reds topped the Cleveland Indians yesterday, 4-2. The Reds jumped out to an early lead on a Shin-Soo Choo solo homer in the first. The Tribe would tie it in the fourth on a Carlos Santana sac-fly, but the Reds came right back with a run in the sixth on a Brandon Phillips sac-fly to take the lead. In the eighth, Jason Giambi smashed a 467-foot homer to tie the game at two. But once again, Cincinnati responded on a Joey Votto two-run homer in the bottom half of the eighth that would win the game. Mike Leake was solid on the mound for the Reds, throwing 7.1 innings and surrendering one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts. The Reds and Indians will battle again today in Cincinnati. Mat Latos will toe the rubber against Zach McAllister. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.

Elsewhere in the MLB, the New York Mets edged the New York Yankees, 2-1. The Chicago Cubs blanked the Chicago White Sox, 7-0. Boston handled Philadelphia, 9-3. Seattle shutout San Diego, 9-0. Toronto toppled Atlanta, 9-3. Oakland bested San Francisco, 4-1. Arizona defeated Texas, 5-3. Tampa Bay blew past Miami, 10-6. St. Louis ousted Kansas City, 6-3. Houston clipped Colorado, 3-2 in 12 innings. Minnesota topped Milwaukee, 6-3. Detroit edged Pittsburgh, 6-5. Baltimore toppled Washington, 6-2. The LA Dodgers snuck past the LA Angels, 8-7 and Arizona clipped Texas, 5-4.

In NBA playoff action last night, San Antonio finished off a sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals with a 93-86 victory. Tony Parker led the way for the Spurs, scoring 37 points on the night with six assists. The Spurs will await the winner of Miami and Indiana in the finals. Miami and Indiana battle in game three of the Eastern Conference Finals tonight at 8:30.

In the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, Chicago tied the series with Detroit at three with a 4-3 victory.
