The Cleveland Indians toppled the Cincinnati Reds last night, 5-2. The Reds jumped on the Indians early, scoring once in the first on a Joey Votto solo blast. However, the Indians responded with a solo homer from Mark Reynolds in the third and a Nick Swisher RBI double in the fourth to take a one-run lead. But in the sixth, Cleveland pulled away behind a Jason Giambi three-run homer. Justin Masterson was excellent for the Indians, throwing six innings and surrendering just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts. The Reds and Tribe will matchup for the final time this year tonight. Homer Bailey will take the hill against Scott Kazmir. Elsewhere in the MLB, St. Louis bested Kansas City, 5-3. Minnesota topped Milwaukee, 4-1. Tampa Bay ousted Miami, 3-1. Toronto blanked Atlanta, 3-0. Pittsburgh defeated Detroit, 5-3. Philadelphia edged Boston, 4-3. The New York Mets handled the New York Yankees, 9-4. Baltimore outlasted Washington, 9-6. The Chicago Cubs dominated the Chicago White Sox, 9-3.
In the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, Chicago advanced to the Western Conference Finals with a 2-1 win over Detroit in overtime. The game was tied at one going into OT, but Brent Seabrook came through with a goal for the Blackhawks, who finished a comeback from a 3-1 series deficit.
