Morning Sports – 6/4/13

The Cincinnati Reds blanked the Colorado Rockies last night, 3-0. The Reds got on the board first in the fourth inning on a Todd Frazier RBI single. Cincinnati would add to the lead and push the game out of reach in the eighth on a Jay Bruce two-run blast. Bronson Arroyo was dominant on the hill, throwing eight scoreless innings and scattering four hits with three strikeouts. The Reds will battle Colorado again tonight. Homer Bailey will take the mound against Juan Nicasio. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.

The Cleveland Indians fell to the New York Yankees yesterday, 7-4. The Tribe got out to a quick lead with one in the third, but Mark Teixeira came right back in the bottom half with a grand-slam. The Indians would tie it in the fifth on a Mike Aviles sac-fly and a Carlos Santana RBI double. However, once again the Yankees came back with two in the sixth and one in the seventh to capture the win. The Indians received some more bad news after the game in that All-Star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera will likely be headed to the DL with an injury to his right quad. The Indians will take on the Yankees again today at 7.

Elsewhere in the MLB, St. Louis toppled Arizona, 7-1. Atlanta handled Pittsburgh, 7-2. Philadelphia blew past Miami, 7-2. Oakland dominated Milwaukee, 10-2. The LA Dodgers clipped San Diego, 2-1. Seattle topped the Chicago White Sox, 4-2 and Houston snuck past the LA Angels, 2-1.

In the NBA playoffs, Miami dominated Indiana in game seven, 99-76 to advance to the NBA Finals for the third straight season. The Heat pulled away starting in the second quarter and never looked back. Miami was led by LeBron James with 32 points and eight rebounds. Game one of the NBA Finals between Miami and San Antonio is set for Thursday night.

In the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, Boston dominated Pittsburgh, 6-1 to take a 2-0 series lead.
