Morning Sports – 6/5/13

The Cincinnati Reds fell to the Colorado Rockies yesterday, 5-4. Colorado took a quick three run lead in the second on a Dexter Fowler RBI single. The Reds cut the lead to two in the bottom half, but tied the game in the fourth on RBI doubles from Todd Frazier and Ryan Hanigan. In the seventh, Xavier Paul would score on a balk to give the Reds the lead, but in the eighth the Rockies answered on a Troy Tulowitzki two-run bomb. The Reds will host Colorado again tonight. Johnny Cueto will take the hill against Jon Garland. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.

The Cleveland Indians fell to the New York Yankees last night, 4-3. The Yankees jumped out to a four-run lead with four runs in the third behind a three-run blast from Mark Teixeira. However, the Indians fought back in the seventh on a three-run homer from Drew Stubbs to cut the lead to one. But the late comeback would fall short for Cleveland as they will wrap up the series in New York today at 1.

Elsewhere in the MLB, Boston dominated Texas, 17-5. Detroit toppled Tampa Bay, 10-1. Washington edged the New York Mets, 3-2. Baltimore bested Houston, 4-1. Atlanta outlasted Pittsburgh, 5-4 in 10 innings. Philadelphia ousted Miami, 7-3 in 10 innings. Minnesota blanked Kansas City, 3-0 and Milwaukee clipped Oakland, 4-3 in 10 innings.

In other MLB news, the league will seek to suspend about 20 players connected to a clinic in Miami that is the source of an ongoing performance-enhancing drug scandal. Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez top the list of players and could receive 100-game suspensions along with other players due to their connection to the biogenesis clinic and denying the connection to the league. Tony Bosch, the CEO of the clinic in Miami is expected to begin naming names with league officials within a week.

In the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs last night, the LA Kings topped Chicago, 3-1.

On your radio dial tonight, it’s the Sports Fan presented by J&K Contracting. That’s on 970 WATH and it’s from 6:06 to 6:40.
