The Cincinnati Reds were toppled by the Colorado Rockies last night, 12-4. The Rockies were on the board with one in the first, but the Reds responded in the home half with four runs behind a Todd Frazier RBI single and a Xavier Paul three-run homer. However, the Rockies offense would explode for 12 runs behind six homers, including two from Troy Tulowitzki and three from Carlos Gonzalez. The Reds have today off and will host St. Louis on Friday night. Mike Leake will duel against Adam Wainwright. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.
The Cleveland Indians fell to the New York Yankees yesterday, 6-4. The Yankees jumped out to an early lead on the Indians with a Travis Hafner homer in the first and a three-run homer from Brett Gardner in the second to go up 6-0. The Indians cut into the lead in the sixth on a Jason Kipnis RBI single and a Yan Gomes two-run homer in the seventh, but the comeback would fall short. The Indians will have today off before heading to Detroit on Friday night at 7.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Arizona toppled the St. Louis Cardinals, 10-3. Houston outlasted Baltimore, 11-7. Kansas City bested Minnesota, 4-1. Tampa Bay blanked Detroit, 3-0. The New York Mets dominated Washington, 10-1. The Chicago Cubs edged the LA Angels, 8-6 in 10 innings. Texas snuck past Boston, 3-2. Toronto shutout San Francisco, 4-0. The Chicago White Sox topped Seattle, 7-5 in 16 innings. Oakland handled Milwaukee, 6-1. Atlanta blanked Pittsburgh, 5-0 and Philadelphia defeated Miami, 6-1.
The Southern Ohio Copperheads kick off their season tonight on the road as they head to Licking County. The Copperheads open a two-game set with the Settlers tonight as they will host Licking County for the home opener tomorrow night. Tonight’s matchup can be heard on copperheadbaseball.com at 7.
In the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs last night, Boston took a 3-0 series lead over Pittsburgh with a 2-1 win in two overtimes.
