The Cincinnati Reds toppled the Milwaukee Brewers today, 5-1. Carlos Gomez put the Brewers on the board first in the first inning on a Carlos Gomez solo homer. However, it was all Reds from that point on as the Redlegs scored once in the second and twice in the third behind a Jay Bruce solo blast. Cincinnati pushed the game out of reach in the sixth when Donald Lutz hit an RBI single. The Reds got a solid pitching performance from Johnny Cueto, who threw six innings, giving up one run on five hits with three strikeouts. Cincinnati will host Pittsburgh tonight for an NL Central showdown. Mike Leake will face off against Francisco Liriano. The Cleveland Indians captured a series win over the Washington Nationals yesterday, with a 2-0 win. The Indians got on the board in the fourth on a Carlos Santana RBI single and added an insurance run in the eighth with a Jason Kipnis sacrifice fly. Corey Kluber was stellar on the hill for the Indians, throwing eight scoreless innings and scattering seven hits with eight strikeouts. The Indians will host Kansas City tonight at 7.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Atlanta blanked San Francisco, 3-0. Colorado bested Philadelphia, 5-2. San Diego defeated Arizona, 4-1. Oakland blasted Seattle, 10-2. The New York Yankees clipped the LA Angels, 6-5. Toronto handled Texas, 7-2. Houston edged the Chicago White Sox, 5-4. Detroit ousted Minnesota, 5-2. Kansas City topped Tampa Bay, 5-3. Baltimore defeated Boston, 6-3. Miami toppled St. Louis, 7-2. Pittsburgh ousted the LA Dodgers, 6-3 and the New York Mets snuck past the Chicago Cubs, 4-3.
The Southern Ohio Copperheads bested the Lima Locos last night, 5-2. The Copperheads took the early lead with one in the first and second on a pair of wild pitches. The Locos would tie the game in the sixth, but the Snakes responded with a pair in the seventh on a Jesse Puscheck RBI single and one in the eighth on a Mike Accardi RBI single. Southern Ohio will now have today off before hitting the road to take on the Hamilton Joes on Tuesday night. The game can be heard on copperheadbaseball.com.
In the NBA Finals last night, the San Antonio Spurs toppled the Miami Heat to take a 3-2 series lead, 114-104. Danny Green, Manu Ginobli and Tony Parker dominated the game, scoring a combined 74 points. Game six is on Tuesday at 9 in Miami.
