The Cleveland Indians bested the Baltimore Orioles last night, 5-2. The Orioles were on the board first, scoring once in the first on a Nick Markakis solo blast and then tacking on one more in the fourth with a Matt Wieters solo homer. However, the Tribe came right back, scoring three times in the sixth on RBI singles from Nick Swisher and Michael Brantley. But in the eighth, Cleveland would put the game out of reach behind a Brantley two-run bomb. The Indians will continue the series in Baltimore tonight at 7. Justin Masterson will face off against Chris Tillman.
The Cincinnati Reds hit the road tonight as they continue their west coast swing in Oakland. The Reds have lost three of their last four and will look to turn things around tonight in Oakland for the start of a two-game set with the Athletics. Bronson Arroyo will take the hill facing Tommy Milone. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 9:35 and first pitch at 10:05.
In MLB action last night, Tampa Bay ended Toronto’s 11-game winning streak with a 4-1 win.
The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup Championship last night with a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins. The Bruins led 2-1 with under two minutes remaining, but the Blackhawks came back to tie the game on a Bryan Bickell goal. However, 17 seconds later Chicago struck again with less than a minute remaining on a Dave Bolland goal to give the Blackhawks the title.
The Boston Celtics and LA Clippers are close to completing a deal that will send coach Doc Rivers to the Clippers, while Boston will receive a 2015 first-round pick. The deal is being held up by contract negotiations between Rivers and the Clippers.
Former Ohio Bobcat point guard DJ Cooper worked out with the Orlando Magic yesterday in preparation for Thursday night’s NBA Draft. The MAC Player of the Year has now worked out for the Golden State Warriors, Portland Trailblazers, Washington Wizards and the Magic. Cooper is projected to be a late second round pick or sign as a free agent.
