Morning Sports – 7/3/13

Homer Bailey threw his second career no-hitter to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-0 win over the San Francisco Giants. The Reds scored once in the first on a Joey Votto sac-fly and jumped out to a three-run lead in the sixth when Brandon Phillips hit a two-run blast. Homer Bailey struck out nine and walked just one but allowed no hits in nine innings. The Reds will take on San Francisco again tonight. Tony Cingrani will duel with Barry Zito. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.

The Cleveland Indians won their fifth in a row with a 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals last night. The Indians jumped out to a quick lead, scoring twice in the first and adding two more in the fourth on an Asdrubal Cabrera RBI single. However, the Royals came right back on a grand slam from Alex Gordon in the fifth. The Indians responded with a pair in the seventh behind a Jason Giambi RBI double. The Indians will continue their series in Kansas City tonight at 8.

Elsewhere in the MLB, the LA Dodgers blanked Colorado, 8-0. The New York Yankees bested Minnesota, 7-3. Tampa Bay shutout Houston, 8-0. Seattle dominated Texas, 9-2. The Chicago White Sox defeated Baltimore, 5-2. The New York Mets toppled Arizona, 9-1. Atlanta blew past Miami, 11-3. Boston ousted San Diego, 4-1. Detroit clipped Toronto, 7-6. Philadelphia snuck past Pittsburgh, 3-1 and Milwaukee blanked Washington, 4-0.

The Southern Ohio Copperheads topped the Lake Erie Monarchs last night, 6-2. The Snakes jumped on Lake Erie early, scoring three times on a Ryan Stone RBI single. Southern Ohio pulled away with two more in the third behind a Mike Accardi RBI single. Jordan Peterson was strong on the hill for Southern Ohio, throwing eight innings and surrendering two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. The Copperheads will battle Lake Erie again tonight. The game can be heard on copperheadbaseball.com with pre game at 6:45 and first pitch at 7.
