The Cincinnati Reds were clipped by the Atlanta Braves last night, 6-5. The Reds scored twice in the first on RBI singles from Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce, but the Braves would respond with a Freddie Freeman RBI double to tie it in the bottom half and another Freeman RBI hit in the second to take the lead. Joey Votto would tie the game in the third on a sac-fly, but Atlanta scored three times in the fourth to regain the lead. In the fifth, Votto would drive in another and in the eighth Brandon Phillips hit an RBI double to cut the lead to one. The Redlegs threatened with one on in the ninth, but would fall short. Bronson Arroyo will take hill for Cincinnati. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.
The Cleveland Indians bested the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday, 4-2. Asdrubal Cabrera got the Tribe on the board first with a solo blast in the first, but Toronto came back to tie it in the sixth on a Jose Bautista RBI double. But the Indians answered in the bottom half, scoring twice on a Lonnie Chisenhall RBI single. Indians hurler Danny Salazar was stellar in his major league debut, throwing six innings and surrendering one run on two hits with seven strikeouts. The Indians will host Kansas City tonight at 7.
Elsewhere in the MLB, the Chicago Cubs blanked St. Louis, 3-0. Philadelphia topped Washington, 3-1. Boston outlasted Seattle, 8-7 in 10 innings. Baltimore defeated Texas, 3-1. The Chicago White Sox ousted Detroit, 6-3. The New York Yankees handled Kansas City, 8-4 and Tampa Bay edged Minnesota, 4-3.
The Southern Ohio Copperheads return to action tomorrow as they head to Lima. The Copperheads sit firmly in first place in the GLSCL midway through the season. The Snakes and Locos will meet on copperheadbaseball.com with pre game at 6:45 and first pitch at 7.
