Morning Sports – 7/15/13

The Cincinnati Reds topped the Atlanta Braves yesterday, 8-4. The Braves were on the board first with one in the second, but the Reds came back with four in the third capped off by a Jay Bruce two-run blast. The Reds and Braves continued to trade runs, but Cincinnati blew the game wide open in the ninth on a Brandon Phillips RBI double and a Todd Frazier RBI single. The Redlegs will now head into the All-Star break with a 53-42 record. The Reds will start the second half of the season on Friday as they host the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Cleveland Indians finished off a sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 6-4 win yesterday. The Indians scored once in the first, but Kansas City came right back in the second to take a one-run lead on an Alex Gordon RBI single. The Indians would take the lead on a pair of RBI hits in the third from Michael Brantley and Carlos Santana, but once again the Royals responded with two in the fourth. But in the sixth, Cleveland jumped on top for good on an Asdrubal Cabrera RBI double. The Indians head into the All-Star break with a 51-44 record and will start the second half by heading to Minnesota on Friday at 8.

Elsewhere in the MLB, Milwaukee handled Arizona, 5-1. San Diego dominated San Francisco, 10-1. Colorado bested the LA Dodgers, 3-1. Seattle clipped the LA Angels, 4-3. Oakland outlasted Boston, 3-2 in 11 innings. Tampa Bay blanked Houston, 5-0. The New York Mets defeated Pittsburgh, 4-2. Philadelphia snuck past the Chicago White Sox, 4-3 in 10 innings. Baltimore ousted Toronto, 7-4. Washington topped Miami, 5-2 in 10 innings. Detroit shutout Texas, 5-0. Minnesota toppled the New York Yankees, 10-4 and St. Louis blew past the Chicago Cubs, 10-6.

The Southern Ohio Copperheads fell to the Lima Locos last night, 15-5. The Locos jumped ahead with four runs in the second and four in the fifth as well as five more in the sixth. The Snakes cut into the lead with two in the fourth on a Colton Turner RBI single, but it would not be enough. Southern Ohio will host the Xenia Scouts tonight. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30.
