Morning Sports – 7/23/13

The Cincinnati Reds dominated the San Francisco Giants last night, 11-0. The offense got started in the first on a Todd Frazier three RBI double and in the second and third on solo homers from Devin Mesoraco, Shin-Soo Choo and Jay Bruce to take a 6-0 lead. The Reds added to their lead and pulled away in the fourth on a two-run double off the bat of Brandon Phillips. The Redlegs got stellar pitching from Bronson Arroyo, who threw a complete game shutout, scattering seven hits with six strikeouts to pick up his ninth win on the season. The Reds will battle San Francisco again tonight for a doubleheader. Greg Reynolds will take the rubber for the Reds against Barry Zito in the first game. Game one can be heard on 970 WATH tonight with pre game at 6:30 and first pitch at 7. Game two will follow the first game on 970 WATH.

The Cleveland Indians fell to the Seattle Mariners last night, 2-1. Nick Swisher put the Tribe on the board first in the first inning with a solo blast. However, Seattle came right back, scoring once in the fourth on a Kendrys Morales solo homer and a Mike Zunino homer in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. The Indians would threaten with two on in the ninth, but would fall short. Cleveland will continue their series in Seattle tonight at 10.

Elsewhere in the MLB, Miami topped Colorado, 3-1. Oakland clipped Houston, 4-3. Baltimore handled Kansas City, 9-2. San Diego bested Milwaukee, 5-3. Detroit toppled the Chicago White Sox, 7-3. Atlanta edged the New York Mets, 2-1. Tampa Bay blanked Boston, 3-0. The LA Dodgers dominated Toronto, 14-5. Pittsburgh snuck past Washington, 6-5. Texas shutout the New York Yankees, 3-0 and the Chicago Cubs ousted Arizona, 4-2.

The Southern Ohio Copperheads will return to action tonight as they host the Hamilton Joes at Bob Wren Stadium for Food Truck Throwdown night. The Snakes currently sit a game ahead of Licking County in first place with the season wrapping up. Hamilton has struggled this season and the Joes sit near the bottom of the standings. The Snakes and Joes battle tonight and the game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30.
