The Cincinnati Reds split a doubleheader with the San Francisco Giants last night, taking the first, 9-3 and falling in the second, 5-3. In the first, Cincinnati came storming out of the gates with four in the second on Zack Cozart RBI single and a Devin Mesoraco three-run blast. In the third, the Redlegs pulled away on a Joey Votto solo homer and RBI singles from Todd Frazier and Tony Cingrani. In the second, the Giants jumped out to the early lead with three in the first on a Pablo Sandoval RBI double and a Hunter Pence RBI single. From then on it was all San Francisco as the Reds would not get any closer than two. Cincinnati will take on San Francisco again tonight. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 9:45 and first pitch at 10:15.
The Cleveland Indians fell to the Seattle Mariners last night, 4-3. The Indians jumped on the board first in the first inning on an Asdrubal Cabrera RBI single. Seattle would comeback to tie the game at one in the second, but Cleveland responded in the second on a Yan Gomes two-run homer. But in the third, the Mariners jumped on top with three runs on a Kendrys Morales RBI double and a Mike Zunino RBI single. The Indians put two on with nobody out in the ninth, but failed to convert. The Indians will now wrap up the series in Seattle today at 3:40.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Miami bested Colorado, 4-2. St. Louis toppled Philadelphia, 4-1. Houston edged Oakland, 5-4. San Diego topped Milwaukee, 6-2. Kansas City clipped Baltimore, 3-2. Detroit ousted the Chicago White Sox, 6-2. The New York Yankees snuck past Texas, 5-4. The New York Mets handled Atlanta, 4-1. Boston topped Tampa Bay, 6-2. The LA Dodgers outlasted Toronto, 10-9 and Pittsburgh defeated Washington, 5-1.
The Southern Ohio Copperheads toppled the Hamilton Joes last night, 20-12. The Snakes scored seven times in the third behind RBI doubles from Jesse Puscheck and Quintin Alexander. Southern Ohio wasn’t done yet, tacking on nine more in the fourth to pull away on five runs walked in. The Snakes will now host the Dayton Docs tonight for the first of a two-game series at Bob Wren Stadium. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30.
