The Cincinnati Reds blew past the San Francisco Giants last night, 8-3. Cincinnati came flying out of the gates, scoring once in the first and three times in the third on RBI singles from Brandon Phillips and Devin Mesoraco as well as an RBI double from Jay Bruce. After the Giants scored once in the bottom half of the third, the Reds tacked on two more in the fourth and two in the sixth on RBI singles from Phillips and Mesoraco to jump ahead by seven. Mike Leake was solid on the hill for the Redlegs, throwing six innings, giving up one run on 12 hits with a pair of strikeouts. Cincinnati will continue their west coast swing tonight as they battle the LA Dodgers. Mat Latos will take the hill against Zach Greinke. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 9:40 and first pitch at 10:10.
The Cleveland Indians blasted the Seattle Mariners yesterday, 10-1. Asdrubal Cabrera got the Indians going in the first with an RBI double followed by another off the bat of Carlos Santana as Cleveland led, 3-0. The Indians would continue to pile it on, landing a knockout punch in the fifth when Michael Bourn hit a grand-slam to put the Tribe on top 8-1. Scott Kazmir threw eight strong innings for the Indians, allowing one run on one hit with seven strikeouts. The Indians will have tonight off before returning home to host the Texas Rangers on Friday night at 7.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Pittsburgh bested Washington, 4-2. Atlanta toppled the New York Mets, 8-2. Tampa Bay handled Boston, 5-1. The LA Angels blanked Minnesota, 1-0. Oakland clipped Houston, 4-3. The LA Dodgers outlasted Toronto, 8-3 in 10 innings. Texas ousted the New York Yankees, 3-1. Detroit defeated the Chicago White Sox, 6-2. Milwaukee topped San Diego, 3-1. Kansas City snuck past Baltimore, 4-3. St. Louis dominated Philadelphia, 11-3 and Colorado clipped Miami, 2-1.
The Southern Ohio Copperheads fell to the Dayton Docs last night, 4-3. The Docs and Snakes exchanged runs in the third before Dayton put up two runs in the fourth to pull ahead. However, Southern Ohio climbed back with one in the sixth on a wild pitch and one in the seventh on a Mike Accardi RBI single. But in the ninth, Dayton had the last laugh with a run on a Daulton Mosbarger RBI single. Southern Ohio will host Dayton again today. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30.
