Morning Sports – 7/29/13

The Cincinnati Reds fell to the LA Dodgers yesterday in 11 innings, 1-0. The Reds got a stellar pitching performance from Tony Cingrani, throwing seven scoreless innings and surrendering just one hit with 11 strikeouts. However, Chris Capuano pitched just as well as the Dodgers allowed just three Reds hits all afternoon. Then, in the 11th inning, the Dodgers came through to win the game on a Yasiel Puig solo homer. Cincinnati will continue their west coast trip tonight as they travel to San Diego. Mike Leake will take the hill against Sean O’Sullivan. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 9:40 and first pitch at 10:10.

The Cleveland Indians finished off a sweep of the Texas Rangers yesterday with a 6-0 victory. The Indians got the offense going in the fifth on a Jason Kipnis RBI single and an RBI single from Yan Gomes in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. Michael Bourn would put two more on the board with an RBI double and in the eighth, the Indians laid the knockout punch on a Mike Aviles two-run homer. The Indians got stellar pitching from Ubaldo Jimenez, throwing eight scoreless innings and surrendered just two hits with six strikeouts. The Indians will now host the Chicago White Sox tonight at 7.

Elsewhere in the MLB, San Diego blanked Arizona, 1-0. Colorado edged Milwaukee, 6-5. Seattle topped Minnesota, 6-4. The Chicago Cubs clipped San Francisco, 2-1. Oakland toppled the LA Angels, 10-6. Kansas City outlasted the Chicago White Sox, 4-2 in 12 innings. Washington dominated the New York Mets, 14-1. Boston shutout Baltimore, 5-0. Miami snuck past Pittsburgh, 3-2. Detroit blew past Philadelphia, 12-4. Toronto bested Houston, 2-1 and the New York Yankees topped Tampa Bay, 6-5.

The Southern Ohio Copperheads claimed the top overall seed in the GLSCL playoffs this weekend and will have a bye into the semifinals. The Snakes will begin their playoff run this Wednesday at Bob Wren Stadium in a best of three series against the winner of the Dayton Docs and Lima Locos matchup. The game can be heard on Power 105 this Wednesday with pre game at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30.
