Morning Sports – 7/31/13

The Cincinnati Reds fell to the San Diego Padres last night, 4-2. The Reds got on the board first on a Devin Mesoraco RBI infield single in the second, but the Padres tied it with one in the bottom half. Cincinnati regained the lead in the sixth on a Jay Bruce RBI single, but San Diego responded on a Will Venable RBI double to tie it in the sixth and a Nick Hundley RBI double in the eighth to lay the winning blow. The Redlegs will wrap up their west coast trip today in San Diego. Homer Bailey will toe the rubber against Eric Stults. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 3:10 and first pitch at 3:40.

The Cleveland Indians won their sixth straight with a 7-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox last night. The White Sox jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after two innings, but the Indians came right back with three in the fifth to tie the game up. However, in the sixth, Dayan Viciedo hit an RBI single that put Chicago back in front. But once again the Indians came back late in the game on a Ryan Raburn RBI single and a Yan Gomes RBI double in the eighth to pull away and take the win. The Indians will continue their series with the White Sox tonight at 7.

Elsewhere in the MLB, Pittsburgh blanked St. Louis, 6-0 and won game two of a doubleheader, 2-1 in 11 innings. Kansas City toppled Minnesota, 7-2. Milwaukee clipped the Chicago Cubs, 3-2. Tampa Bay bested Arizona, 5-2. The New York Mets outlasted Miami, 4-2. Atlanta blew past Colorado, 11-3. Boston handled Seattle, 8-2. Philadelphia topped San Francisco, 7-3. Detroit ousted Washington, 5-1. Baltimore clipped Houston, 4-3.  Milwaukee snuck past the Chicago Cubs, 6-5.

The Southern Ohio Copperheads will start their playoff run tonight as they travel to Lima to battle the Locos in game one of the GLSCL Semifinals. The final games of the series will take place in Athens, but the top overall seeded Snakes will begin tonight on the road. The game can be heard on copperheadbaseball.com with pre game at 6:45 and first pitch at 7.
