The Cincinnati Reds topped the San Diego Padres last night, 4-1. The Reds were on the board first in the second on a Brandon Phillips solo homer. In the seventh, Cincinnati would pull away on a Chris Heisey RBI single and a Joey Votto RBI double. Homer Bailey was stellar on the hill for the Redlegs, throwing 8.1 innings and giving up no earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts. The Reds will now have today off before hosting the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 6:40 and first pitch at 7:10.
The Cleveland Indians won in walk off fashion yet again last night, 6-5 over the Chicago White Sox in 10 innings. The Indians took quick 3-0 lead on a Michael Brantley RBI double and a Carlos Santana RBI double. However, the White Sox came back to tie it with three in the sixth and took the lead with two more in the ninth. But in the bottom half, the Indians responded with two on a pair of sac-flies and in the tenth, Carlos Santana came through with a walk-off homer. The Indians finish the series with Chicago today at 12:05.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Kansas City edged Minnesota, 4-3. The Chicago Cubs toppled Milwaukee, 6-1. Texas snuck past the LA Angels, 2-1. Arizona blanked Tampa Bay, 7-0. Miami clipped the New York Mets, 3-2. Atlanta shutout Colorado, 9-0. Boston outlasted Seattle, 5-4 in 15 innings. San Francisco blew past Philadelphia, 9-2. Houston dominated Baltimore, 11-0. Pittsburgh ousted St. Louis, 5-4. Toronto bested Oakland, 5-2 in 10 innings and Detroit toppled Washington, 11-1.
The Southern Ohio Copperheads dominated the Lima Locos in game one of the GLSCL semifinals last night, 16-1. Southern Ohio jumped on top early with one in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. However, the Snakes would pull away in the final two innings, scoring five in the eighth behind a James Coates RBI single as well as a couple of errors resulting in Southern Ohio runs. The Locos committed five errors on the evening and Copperhead hurler Jackson Sowell was solid, throwing seven scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits. The Copperheads will now host the Locos for game two tonight at Bob Wren Stadium. The game can be heard on Power 105 with pre game at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30.
