The Cincinnati Reds edged the Milwaukee Brewers last night, 2-1. The Brewers drew first blood, scoring once in the second on a Khris Davis solo blast. However, the Redlegs came right back with a Zack Cozart RBI single in the fifth and a Joey Votto solo blast gave Cincinnati the lead in the sixth. Tony Cingrani threw 6.1 strong innings of work, giving up just one run on four hits with nine strikeouts. The Reds will battle the Brewers again tonight. Mike Leake will duel against Tom Gorzelanny. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:40 and first pitch at 8:10.
Elsewhere in the MLB, Minnesota edged the Chicago White Sox, 4-3. Tampa Bay dominated Seattle, 7-1. Detroit topped Kansas City, 4-1. Toronto clipped Boston, 2-1. San Francisco ousted Washington, 4-3. Oakland blanked Houston, 5-0. St. Louis outlasted Pittsburgh, 6-5 in 12 innings and the LA Angels handled the New York Yankees, 8-4.
The Cleveland Browns toppled the Detroit Lions last night, 24-6 in preseason action. After a first quarter field goal, the Cleveland offense took over. It started with a Brandon Weeden 10-yard pass to Jordan Cameron for a touchdown late in the first and in the second on another Weeden to Cameron connection for a score. Weeden was solid, completing eight of 12 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns. The Browns will now head to Indianapolis next Saturday at 7. The Bengals will host the Tennessee Titans for their second preseason game on Saturday night at 7.
