Morning Sports – 8/27/13

The Cincinnati Reds fell to the St. Louis Cardinals last night, 8-6. The Reds jumped on the Cardinals early, scoring four times in the second on RBI triples from Zack Cozart and Todd Frazier. However, Matt Holliday blasted a three-run homer in the third and with St. Louis trailing by one in the seventh, Allen Craig hit a grandslam off J.J. Hoover to help the Cards pull away. The Redlegs cut into the St. Louis lead in the eighth on a Jay Bruce solo homer, but the comeback would stop there. Cincinnati will take on the Cardinals again tonight. Mat Latos will take the hill against Joe Kelly. The game can be heard on 970 WATH with pre game at 7:45 and first pitch at 8:15.

Elsewhere in the MLB, Arizona topped San Diego, 6-1. Houston outlasted the Chicago White Sox, 10-8. Colorado handled San Francisco, 6-1. Philadelphia edged the New York Mets, 2-1. Oakland bested Detroit, 8-6. Toronto ousted the New York Yankees, 5-2. Kansas City dominated Tampa Bay, 11-1. The LA Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs, 6-2 and Texas blew past Seattle, 8-3.

The Cleveland Browns announced that running back Dion Lewis will be headed to the injured reserve and will miss the 2013 season after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured fibula. Lewis was expected to back up Trent Richardson after the team traded for Lewis from the Eagles in April. Lewis averaged 4.5 yards in 10 carries with a touchdown this preseason.

On your radio dial tonight, it’s the Sports Fan presented by J&K Contracting. That’s on 970 WATH and it’s from 6:06 to 7.
