The Cincinnati Reds toppled the St. Louis Cardinals last night, 10-0. The Reds did their damage early, scoring six times in the first behind RBI singles from Jay Bruce and Homer Bailey and an RBI double from Ryan Ludwick. Then the Reds laid the knockout punch in the second on a Jay Bruce three-run blast. The Redlegs got stellar pitching from Homer Bailey, who threw 7.1 scoreless innings, surrendering just five hits with seven strikeouts. Cincinnati will have today off before heading to Colorado on Friday night.
The Cleveland Indians fell to the Atlanta Braves last night, 3-2. The Indians trailed 2-0 early, but came back behind a Mike Aviles solo blast in the fourth and sacrifice fly in the eighth. But in the ninth, Chris Johnson came through for Atlanta with a walkoff RBI single. The Indians will finish the series in Atlanta tonight at 7.
Elsewhere in the MLB, San Diego handled Arizona, 5-1. Colorado edged San Francisco, 5-4. The Chicago White Sox blew past Houston, 6-1. Tampa Bay topped the LA Angels, 4-1. Philadelphia defeated the New York Mets, 6-2. Oakland dominated Detroit, 14-4. Toronto ousted the New York Yankees, 7-2. Pittsburgh toppled Milwaukee, 7-1. Washington clipped Miami, 4-3. Boston snuck past Baltimore, 4-3. Texas blew past Seattle, 12-4 and the LA Dodgers blanked the Chicago Cubs, 4-0.
Ohio Bobcat junior cornerback Lorenzo Fisher and redshirt freshman quarterback Greg Windham were arrested yesterday on fourth-degree felony drug trafficking charges. Fisher started for the Bobcats last year, but was already slated to miss the first two games for an off-season misdemeanor assault charge. Ohio athletics announced that the two will be suspended indefinitely.
The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 tonight as the high school football season kicks off with Federal Hocking traveling to Alexander in a battle for the SPACER trophy. The game can be heard on Power 10 with pre game at 7:15 and kickoff at 7:30.
