The Alexander Spartans blew past Federal Hocking to claim the SPACER trophy in last night’s Athens County Game of the Week, 38-14. The Spartans raced out to a 20-0 lead, behind touchdown runs from Josh Barnes and Jacob Wirick. However, the Lancers would score 14 unanswered on a Peyton Seel 42-yard touchdown run and an AJ Cobb 1 yard run for a score. But it was all Alexander from then on as Barnes rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns on the night.

The Athens County Game of the Week returns to Power 105 and 970 WATH tonight as Athens heads to Gallia Academy in a critical showdown. The Bulldogs are looking for revenge for a loss to the Blue Devils last year behind star quarterback Joey Burrow. However, the Blue Devils and gunslinger Wade Jarrell are looking to knock off the highly touted Bulldogs in week one. The game can be heard on Power 105 and 970 WATH with pre game at 7:15 and kickoff at 7:30.

The Cleveland Indians fell to the Atlanta Braves last night, 3-1. The Braves took their lead in the third and did all their damage on a Brian McCann three-run homer. The Indians cut into the lead in the eighth on a Lonnie Chisenhall solo blast, but it would not be enough. The Tribe will now head to Detroit tonight at 7. The Indians also announced a deal for Diamondbacks outfielder Jason Kubel, sending a minor league player and cash to Arizona.

The Cincinnati Bengals blew past the Indianapolis Colts in the final preseason game last night, 27-10. After Indy went up 3-0, the Bengals took over scoring 27 unanswered points behind a Giovani Bernard one-yard touchdown run and a Rex Burkhead two-yard touchdown plunge. The Bengals finish the preseason at 3-1 and will open the regular season next Sunday on 970 WATH in Chicago at 1.

The Cleveland Browns clipped the Chicago Bears in their final preseason game yesterday, 18-16. The Bears took the quick 10-0 lead in the second and led 13-3 in the third, but the Browns came back on a James-Michal Johnson 23-yard interception return for a touchdown and a Dan Gronkowski 14-yard touchdown pass from Brian Hoyer. The Browns finish the preseason 3-1 and open the regular season next Sunday at home against Miami at 1.

On your radio dial tonight, it’s the Sports Fan presented by J&K Contracting. That’s on 970 WATH and it’s from 6:06 to 7.
